Free Write!

Well..I racked my brain for things to talk about that I feel passionately about or just want to talk about in general but one thing is sticking out in my head that I just can't seem to get rid of. About two weeks ago I was home back in Charleston and over the weekend, Daniel Black, a boy I grew up with died in a car accident. Not that we were best friends or anything but I just knew him since I was little. He actually graduated from Clemson in 2008. This news was such a shock. It's just weird to think that someone so young and full of life can have everything end in a matter of seconds. It's always weird to think that he is not here anymore. You have to step back and really reevaluate your life when things happen like that. Are you really living life to the fullest? Are you being a great and kind servant to everyone you meet? Do you want to leave the world with everyone thinking you are a grumpy, old hag? When things happen like that it makes me realize that it could have been me, or my mom or my sisters. I am so cautious now about everything I am doing, including drinving back and forth from Charleston. I really wish I could take it all back for this family. It is so hard to know that someone is going through that kind of pain. He was their youngest child of three. On thing I thought was kind of neat was after everyone, mainly from James Island, heard about it posted up their profile pictures with him in them. It was like atleast 10 different people who changed them. I know thats silly, I just thought it was kind of cool. Now when I am on the interstate I really drive with lots of caution. I pray that this does not happen to any one else I know any time soon, because it might make me start questioning God and wondering if this is some sort of sign to make some changes in my own life? Anyways, this is something that I just haven't been able to shake and I just wanted to share with ya'll. Really do live every minute as if it could end right now.

Ten Years

Where and what will I be in the next ten years?

I see myself moving somewhere warmer for starters. I will hopefully have a family and I nice, cozy, inviting home. I hope to have atleast one little girl. My husband will be someone who works a job that he likes very much. I can almost guarantee that you can find me back in Charleston, in ten years. You would never have thought though just 6 months ago when I was charging out of there. I hope to speak to my family on a regular basis and I hope my sisters kids and my kids will be best friends. I hope that I keep close relationships with my sisters. I also woud like to be spreading love and kindness to everyone I meet, as cheesy as that sounds. When people are kind and do nice things for you it can turn your whole day from horrible to awesome and I have learned that as I have gotten older. So I try and be kind and caring to everyone who crosses my path. I hope that my relationship with God is still very strong and I hope my kids will develop a relationship with Him. I can't believe I totally forgot this, but I will be a registered dietitian working at MUSC. All I can hope is to be happy and healthy with a nice, loving, big family.

Response to the Video

Now, I'd like you to respond. What do you think the title of the video (The Machine is Us/ing Us) means? How does Web 2.0 affect someone who is ready to enter the workforce? How does it affect people who are already in the workforce? What do you think it means when it says that we will have to rethink everything?

I think the title suits the video really well. The web is in a bizarre way using us and at the same time we are using it. The world is using the web to instantly connects with others and this has TOTALLY transformed everything from the workplace, to school to something as simple as running errands. All of the things I just listed can be done from a computer.
As far as how the Web 2.0 affects a person about to enter the workforce, the web provides them with the tools to be able to connect or network with others to benefit the company and themselves. It has also changed the way people communicate. We have to pay attention to minor details when we write to not appear as we are angry, or too excited, etc. in things such as an email or instant message. The web has caused people who have been in the workforce for a long time to lag behind in the latest technology because they are already accustomed to and comftorable with the waythat they learned. For instance, my mom has been a teacher for 30 years and she does not do well with computers. The school provided computer workshops for all the teachers as the web became more popular but still, my mom and many of her colleagues prefer the traditional way of doing things. However, my dad is a computer technician and his business has boomed since computers have became basically an essential.
There are so many things to consider now that computers are so popular and the preferred and most used means of communication. As the video pointed out, things like privacy have been totally invaded now that people can hack into others personal information. Security is extremely important for anyone sharing personal information over the internet. Also, people are also worried about the United States tracking them legally. Even though people may not be doing anything wrong while on the internet, their privacy still feels invaded know that secret service can watch them. Also, important things like copyrights and authorships have to be considered because now that people can publish things and have the world be able to instantly access them people are able to claim things that really arent theirs. The web is essential and since the invention of it we have become extremely productive as individuals and as a society.

All About Me

Hi,
My name is Sarah Kizer. I am a junior and I transferred in to Clemson last fall from Charleston. I love it here so far! I am from James Island. Lately, I really have started to miss Charleston, but Clemson has really been growing on me. I am a Food Science major and hope to be a registered dietitian by the time everything is said and done. I have two older sisters that are both married. I love the water and everything to do with it and I also love traveling, hanging out with my family, going to Clemson, babysitting and meeting new people. Since I have transferred up here from Charleston, school has become my number one priority and I will continue to pour my heart and soul in to my work until I graduate. Also, last but not least, the most important thing in my life is God and trying to keep him number one day in and day out. Ok, that pretty much sums me up!
